Nature

Redefining nature photography

Nature photography has a wide form of photography. It is very different into other types of photography like the animal, landscape, and human photography. Although these three types of photography sometimes interpreted as nature photography, still, it is differ among these three. They said that animals, humans, and landscapes are often the subjects in nature photography. Yes it is true, but actually, it is not. They have very big differences to each other.

The myth conceptions

Animal photography is obviously focuses on animals. Subjects are about how they live. Funny faces, weird acts, giving birth, feeding babies, playing, taking a bath, eating foods, and many more. Some photographers are choosing to shoot animals in action. Some are in steady. Some are stolen. No other angles, no other subjects, only and pure animals.

Another is the human photography. It is very different from nature photography. Like in animals, human photography concentrates only on human beings. Best shots can varied from different angles. Face impressions, funny scenes, portraits, and people at work, stolen shots, and many more. But the bottom line is, still, it emphasizes human beings. It can be in a group or individual. Yes, it is very different from nature photography.

Last type of photography, which nature photography is greatly misinterpreted, is the landscape photography. Some photographers said that landscape and nature photography are the same. But, it is not. Landscape photography gives great attentions to the scenery. Subjects can be views of environments, amazing land forms, and wonderful earthworks. But, is it enough to say that this is same as in nature photography? Well, let’s see.

It’s all about story

When you hear the word nature photography, what comes up to your mind? Pretty sure, those three mentioned earlier must you say. Actually, nature photography is indeed all about nature, but in deep sense. Yes, in deep sense. You just not only say about on what you see surrounding you. But, it is also the hidden message what the photo is all about. How is it?

Yes, animal, human, and landscape photography also depict meanings. They have also messages to emphasize and deliver to the viewers. But the nature photography, among of these three, have not only gives message but also provides a story. The photos are not just simply showing you what the photo is all about, but, there is a hidden story behind on that wonderful, glamorous, superb, and amazing photo. That’s the nature photography has. That’s what you call the uniqueness of nature photography. Not just a simple beautiful and attractive photo but there is a deep sense.

Nature photography has what animal, human, and landscape photography has. It shows a message, creates a meaning, emphasizes an action, delivers a drama, and most of all, its uniqueness – there’s a story. Furthermore, nature photography has a developing factor that it gives to the viewer. Since it has a story, therefore, it creates an emotion. This is not just a simple emotion because animal, human, and landscape also show emotions. The emotion in nature photography is not artificial or not manipulated. Not like in animal, human, and landscape that can be operated and sometimes directed or scripted. In nature photography, all the formed stories are true and in reality since the subjects are never be constructed and fabricated.

Still the best

Nowadays, most photographers prefer to nature photography. This is because of its uniqueness and realistic. With this, you cannot just show beautiful and wonderful views but also you can tell a story to the viewers. In nature photography, you don’t need to find a better place; instead, it is the story which makes the photo memorable and lovable.

"We do not see Nature with our eyes, but with our understandings and our heart."

--- William Hazlitt
Most of the photos won in various photo competitions are nature photography. Very few have won among other types of photography. Why? It is because; nature photography is abundant in subject matters. Anywhere in the world, you can create a nature photograph. Only you think on is what the best shot with the best story to tell.

Before, we shoot photos to collect remembrance. Before, we shoot photos to preserve memories. Before, we shoot photos only for special occasions. Before, we shoot photos to capture moments. But, that was all before, now; we shoot photos to inspire, to influence, to educate, to tell, and most of all to deliver stories of actions from still images.
